BBE design system
Bang Bang Education is an online school of design and technology. Learning there works like research. A student starts in front of a large field of information and puts it in order step by step, collecting data, practising, testing what works, building their own picture of the subject. We made that search for information the visual language itself. It is assembled from the things research leaves behind, from diagrams and measuring devices to notes, reference boards and material samples.
Behind the language stands one figure, an engineer-researcher on a new planet. The planet is any unfamiliar field, one with no structure in it yet. The researcher marks what matters and builds a system around what is found there. The same figure sets the two aesthetics the visuals run on. Realism keeps the design in contact with the physical world, through recognisable objects, materials, diagrams and interfaces. Space-core shifts it forward, with instruments that look slightly ahead of the ones we use now.
The language covers everything the school produces, from course covers and landing pages to ad campaigns and social media. We packed it into asset libraries and guidelines that in-house designers and freelancers work from.
